Suddenly my home page changed from the standard firefox home page (FOX WRAPPED AROUND THE GLOBE), replaced to a picture of a footballer chasing a soccer ball - and under the google search window in a black square the word goal. Then: Stay connected with the game you love. Activate the Goal.com sidebar for Firefox today and get real-time results from Brazil right in your browser.

I want my firefox home page BACK, as it is what Mozilla Firefox represents.

If you prefer not to see snippets on the about:home page then you can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref to an empty string on the about:config page.

Delete the storage\moz-safe-about+home folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit) to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-safe-about+home folder.

You need to close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref.

You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets.

Mozilla.org changes the display once in a while. After a time it gets changed back. Check out about:blank

It took 4 attempts before I was able to get this procedure to work and I've been around since the days of NCSA Mosaic....

In future it, might be in the best interest of everyone if Mozilla respected the end users privacy and didn't force things like this on us. If updates are turned off, then nothing should be forcibly updated....

My update settings are set to not allow updates for a multitude of reasons, ranging from advanced customizations to the simple fact that version 29 is a Chrome Twin, and garbage. I have it on one of my beta testing rigs and despise it....

It's a lack of common sense and the assumption that the end user will just go along with whatever Mozilla throws at us that is causing users to not upgrade or in many cases leave Firefox/Mozilla for other browsers/platforms.

Its a shame really. Marc Andreessen worked so hard for so many years to build the "Better Browser" which Netscape was in it's day, as was Firefox in the beginning. Yet, the past few years Firefox has become the "Copy Cat Browser" just to steal market share from which ever browser is most popular at the moment.

After 4 attempts and a couple of hours of precious time I was able to get this to work. Thank you.

But it would be greatly appreciated if theese unwanted snippets were not forced upon us when ever Mozilla decides to promote them. Besides if I want or am interested in finding news or promotions for my hobbies I can look them up on the net.
