Youtube video cannot load. 1 out of 10 works for me. This started yesterday. I tried restarting, cleared cache. Ads work, video doesn't. Flash updated to 13.

Maybe 1 out of 10 maybe youtube videos works. My favorites, including music videos were working just fine and now only a couple are working. I cleared my cache, restarted the computer, updated flash and none worked. Installed chrome, didn't work. I don't know what's wrong. Ads are working perfectly though...

I just remembered something. YouTube does block some content depending on your location. But you get a message if it does.

Hello,

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

One way to test whether this is caused by a setting or might be external to Firefox is this three-minute experiment:

Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Close all Firefox windows, then start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button and give it a name like TEST. For best results, skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.

You can check the Add-ons page to ensure that extensions are disabled. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

Click Extensions in the left column and you can review whatever you have.

And then, finally, do videos play in the new profile?

When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button on TEST. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

I tried the "enabled hardware acceleration" and it didn't work. I tried delete profile and it didn't work. :(

I also do not think it's firefox...because IE, Chrome has the same problem.

You didn't delete your profile... that would be a disaster.

Did you ever opt in to Youtube's HTML5 trial? http://www.youtube.com/html5

Yea, I deleted it...

I don't think I did...should I?

It's easy to try the HTML5 trial and exit it again if it doesn't help.

But I can't believe you deleted your profile. That's all your bookmarks, etc.

ya...i wish i didn't delete everything but oh well. I tried html5 and that didn't help

Do you have any external software that might alter normal website operation? For example, by filtering out some domains, or by blocking some cookies, or by blocking some types of content?

YouTube pages are built from components on numerous servers, and the videos themselves are retrieved in fragments. I played a video from the home page and it shows these servers were called (not counting ad servers):

  • s.youtube.com
  • s.ytimg.com
  • www.google.com
  • yt3.ggpht.com
  • cgi.gstatic.com
  • r9---sn-o097znls.googlevideo.com (actual video fragments)

Maybe your security software or a proxy is interfering with one of these.

I have no security or firewall enabled atm. If it were blocked, i wouldn't have been able to see some video. 1 out of 10 videos are watchable for some reason.

Ok so I came across a reddit post about this problem. Apparently, if I go to unblock-proxy.net and paste the youtube video link I can watch it. Matter of fact, I can watch all the vids on youtube. So somehow I'm blocked?

It is possible. You said other programs are also blocked? Do this;

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware. Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't know what they are.

Well, I guess youtube is back for me now. I'm not sure what went wrong. I just gave up on fixing it and then it started to work...I guess I'll work on my relationship this way, since it seemed to work :)

Thanks everyone.
