It says that Firefox is already running in background and gives prompt to close Firefox, upon clicking which it repeats the same process again. I have tried closing it from task manager, but can't close one, saying that the operation could not be completed. Can you please help me with this? It is a bit urgent.

How about powershell as admin? Run this PS C:\> Stop-Process -Name "Firefox" Or login as admin see if you have the same issue with the process already running.

Did you install Firefox as an administrator? Are you having the issue with a non-administrator account?

Try this DOS command: TASKKILL /T /F /IM Firefox.exe

Shut down Firefox. Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Right click on Firefox.exe and select Properties. Now select Compatibility. Turn Off Run This Program In Compatibility Mode, and Run This Program As An Administrator.

Do the same for any Firefox shortcuts you have. Now restart Firefox.
