Firefox has been crashing several times a day for the last few weeks. I have disabled add-ins and still am experiencing crashes.

Here are a few of the crash reports

When you say you disabled add-ins, do you mean you ran Firefox in its "Safe Mode"?

That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox.

You can start Firefox in Safe Mode (if it's not running) by holding down the Shift key when starting the program.

In the small dialog that should appear, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

You may also want to replace Firefox's program files. The following method does not involve uninstalling Firefox, just hiding the existing program folder and re-running the installer.

(1) Download a fresh installer from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location.

(2) Exit out of Firefox.

(3) Rename the folder

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Any improvement in stability?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in there for these folders:

  • C:\Program Files\OldFirefox\Plugins
  • C:\Program Files\OldFirefox\browser\plugins

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try the reinstall method. However did the crash reports show any particular add-in or extension as being responsible?

Thanks

Unfortunately, the April 9th crash report references a part of Firefox I'm not familiar with, and it isn't linked to any already-filed bug reports. During the past two weeks, 9 crash reports have been submitted with that particular crash signature, with no pattern as between XP and later versions. No users comments on what was happening at the time, although on your report, Firefox didn't get very far in starting up.

I didn't try to retrieve the older reports from March. If you have any more links from April, you could provide those IDs, too.

I did notice in the crash report that you had a lot of extensions are installed, so that's why I suggested trying to start Firefox in its Safe Mode to see whether that makes any difference.

It is possible that the crash is caused by a plugin (plugins aren't affected by Safe Mode).
