Firefox is the most stable version.

Firefox Beta is a beta (second) release of the new version.

Firefox Aurora is an alpha (first) release of the new version.

Firefox Nightly release is whatever was checked in up to last night.

As of June 08, 2013 there are four active versions of Firefox:

Firefox 21 - The most stable version of Firefox. It is safe for millions of users and is qualified by the QA.

Firefox 22 (Firefox Beta) - An upcoming look at the newer Firefox is is pretty Stable and safe. It is not recommended for everyone. It can be Downloaded by anyone though and is mostly for Beta testers Users. Tested By the QA but not recommended.

Aurora 23 (Firefox Aurora) - An even Less stable version of Firefox. It is not even called Firefox it is Called Aurora. It is Not recommended for most people so if you are a regular person I would Not recommend downloading this. Accepted by the QA but Highly NOT Recommended.

Nightly 24 (Firefox Nightly) - This is the least stable Version of Firefox out there. I personally would not recommend this Unless you are a programmer or know what you are doing.

Note that the Aurora and Nightly builds are updated daily and the beta version usually updates once a week.
Aurora (alpha2) and Nightly (alpha1) are possibly unstable alpha version and only meant for testers that know how to deal with bugs.
