When I start FF it application hangs (freezes) some times over a minute. Message say FF is not responding. . Have had my PC checked, it is clean, cleared the cache and performed everything else I can think of. When I click to change pages, it does the same thing.

Does everything else on your computer work as expected, is it only firefox that you have a problem with ?

If so Try Firefox in safe mode

  1. do not make changes in the first options window, just click on continue.
  2. use only the default theme
  3. if you still have problems, then whilst still in safe mode, disable your plugins

Try firefox on a file on the local computer, eg save a web page and open it on your harddrive with firefox, presumably that works ok without giving messages of not responding.

Hello John99, Thank you for answering my question. This has been a major problem for me. I followed all of your directions and FF works great in safe mode. I already use the default theme. My FF8 did not look like the new one. I tried the 'reset the toolbar and restart.' That worked. FF8 now looks just like the new one, and everything works perfectly. Just wanted to thank you for your help.

Great to know it now works.

Often it is then worth trying to figure which extension caused the problem, sometimes it then is simply a case of updating the problem add-on; or sometimes learning to live without it.

I don't get an error message. It just stops and seems to load whatever page I've requested, ad nauseum. It never loads. Ever. It gets really old and all was fine until I upgraded to version 8.0. I don't have time to wait 15 minutes for a page that will never load.

Just researching the problem is a nightmare because THAT drags or hangs too.

I'm using Windows 7 professional, 64 bit, on PC with 1.5 TB hard drive with 8GB ram so space shouldn't be an issue.

I have a six-year-old Imac. The ANR messages have been really annoying since this summer, especially when I'm on Firefox 3.0. I've done everything to stop it--reboot, quit, force quit, clear cache and cookies. I even made sure I had one copy of Firefox open (somehow I've gotten more than one and thought that was the problem). It still there. Is there a way to fix it and remove the problem. Memory is fine. But I'm getting close of throwing my Imac out the window and getting a new one.
