Restore website password from timemachine ...
Hello,
For a number of years I have been backing up my Mac Book Pro to my Time Machine.
Recently had to do a full flat reinstall of the operating system and reinstall all my apps. I have looked online as to how to get back the Passwords:
Both of these files must be copied)
key3.db (key4.db in Firefox 58 and above) - Key database for passwords. signons.sqlite (Firefox 3.5) or logins.json (Firefox 32 and above) - Saved passwords.
I can not see where on the time machine backup these files are stored. I went into a apple store and they also failed to find these individual file and where to copy them back to, to reinstate the sizable password library I had built in FireFox.
Please help.
Best Regards Alan

Hi Alan, probably Time Machine has these files in the backup for your old profile folder. Since those names are partially random, there's no way to look up the old name, you would need to explore the part of the backup that would have had the folder and see what is there.
To find your current profile folder, please see the steps in the following article:
Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data
The only difference between the current path and the older path would be the very last part.
Does that help at all?
One location for your personal data (e.g. bookmarks) and another location for temporary files like the disk cache, so make sure to look in the correct location.
Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).
- ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>
Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files (Local Directory on about:profiles).
- ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>
The later is not important.
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the "~/Library" folder in the Home directory is a hidden folder.
