Thunderbird freezes for 10-30 seconds after sending or receiving email (win7)

I am using the Windows version of Thunderbird, and while using on my work desktop, TB freezes for 10-30 seconds when sending or receiving emails. I connect to an IMAP server for receiving email. How can I enable any kind of debugging logs/etc so I can begin to look into this?

The same setup on my laptop from home doesn't exhibit the same types of delays, talking to the same servers.

Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird
