Usually your email site will display an icon for the file type, such as PDF, DOC, etc. You can use that information to add or edit the file extension so Windows associates it with the correct application.

I recommend showing the common file extensions that Windows hides by default so they are easy to edit if need be. These articles have the steps for earlier versions of Windows, but presumably one of the methods still works in Windows 10:

Hard to tell at the head of the file file when i pull it back up it just says'user ,% and a lot of other symbols and ends in html.
