Google search in Firefox insanely slow

Whenever I type in the Google search bar it has very slow response time. For each character to display I have to wait half a second . I have a Sony Xperia z3 using android 5.1.1. Any help why this is the case?. Chrome works fine but I don't want to use it as because I use Firefox on my desktop and sync history etc.

Hello. This may be due to a 3rd Party Keyboard, or Multiple Apps Running. Try clearing your Recent apps and see if this helps with your problem.

I'm not using any 3rd party keyboards. I also cleared all recent apps. Unfortunately my problem is still there
