Why can't I just get the arrows for Back and Forward instead of a duplicate item on my toolbar

How did you manage to get text labels?

Are you using an extension?

Not really sure what you mean. I've had and icon and text on my on my Tool bar for years. But with this last Firefox update everything went nuts.

I just checked my Add-0ns and see nothing weird. All I know previously if I want to go "Back" to a previous tab, there an arrow in the upper left corner.

The current release only supports icons on the toolbar and not text labels. You would need an extension like Classic Theme Restorer to have the option in Customize mode to select text labels.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
