I'm using thunderbird 149.0.1. I'm trying to add a microsoft exchange account (@outlook.com). Using the account hub, after I entered the full name and email address and did the two-factor authorization, I'm stuck on the second screen (see attached). According to the instruction , I should not enter my account password in the first dialog box. However this is not possible since the password field is required. If I enter my account password in the password field, and leave the "Your login" part blank (or fill it with my email address), the window would complain "Exchange auth error" after I clicked continue. If I put a random string in the "Your login" field, clicking continue would lead me to a microsoft signin dialog, and if I sign in with my credential and password, the same "Exchange auth error" would still appear after I finished all the steps in the microsoft popup.

Couple months back had to restore computer. Wouldn't let me add my POP gmail account, said had to use IMAP. POP was no longer accepted or something to that effect. So I got IMAP set up. (Of course, I did save my old POP folder with some messages in it.) Ever since setting up the IMAP folder I only get maybe 30 messages each morning. Never more. Which is no way right. I've googled and tweeked the synchronization/storage settings and the server settings. Nothing works. I'll spend hours googling suggestions and trying them, then get frustrated and move on. Then a week or so later I go thru it all again. Nothing changes!! Still only get the very few emails each morning. About 30 or so minutes after the initial download of messages, I'll get a pop up saying imap connection lost. This is SO frustrating. I have no idea what to try next. I never had this kind of issue with any of my POP accounts. Any suggestions? I've probably already tried them but will certainly give it another try. Thanks! Lynn

I have an account with a Spectrum tx.rr.com address. I use Thunderbird to view and send. The email account is set up as POP3 in Thunderbird. It has worked well until the last couple weeks when I started getting sporadic errors from Thunderbird saying "could not connect to server mail.twc.com; the connection was refused." then a few minutes later it works. Sometimes this happens on the Send and sometimes on the Receive.. I believe the account is set up correctly and I never have an issue through webmail. This can happen 5-10 times/day. It is annoying. Any suggestions on how to fix?

I've successfully connected to a hosted Exchange server through EWS and NTLM authentication (kudos BTW). But there is a problem - often during operations against EWS I'm presented with "Login to account XXX failed" "Login to server YYY with account XXX failed". I can ignore it (cancel) and it will work for seconds or minutes but eventually reappear. Sometimes it's very frequent, sometimes is here and there. TL;DR; connection works, I can read directories and e-mails.

From looking at development tools I see these scenarios: 1. POST requests return 200 always (no messsage of course) 2. Eventually a POST would return 401. Then Thunderbird issues a GET, it returns 401 as well but response includes header WWW-Authenticate: NTLM XXXXXX. Then another GET is issued containing header "Authorization" with the value from previous response. This time it gets 200 and continues without POST requests without a dialog. 3. Sometimes there are more POST requests with 401 (I assume in parallel) before a GET is issued and then I see a dialog. Sometimes it recovers (regardless of whether I cancel or retry), sometimes gets stuck with 401 with dialog reappearing each time it tries something. This case it's similar in sense that thunderbird issues GET with 401 and WWW-Authenticate header, issues another GET with Authenticate header but still gets 401.

If I had to guess I'd say the problem happens when POST requests are issued in parallel, not sequentially. OTOH it might be a problem at the server, but it isn't very likely.

As of a few days ago, I have the latest thunderbird installed and can't say when this began happening, but despite it working for years with two gmail accounts, neither gmail account will now sync / connect and it has authorization issues.

I've then tried running thunderbird in a sandbox / uninstalling / reinstalling / deleting the user profile / registry entries, you name it...when setting up a gmail account in thunderbird, an error of "Authentication error. Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." come up, despite the password being verified as correct.

If I manually setup gmail using the gmail settings, of imap.gmail.com / port 993 and SSL / TLS and Oauth2, and do a test, I'm met with "Connection to server.imap.gmail.com:993 failed"

Nothing has changed on my computer in the time leading up to this not working. No windows updates performed...no changes to the firewall etc. You name it. I've checked it all.

I still get the "Unable to connect' message as soon as I open up the Thunderbird mail app. I have tried to delete and reinstall my outlook email accounts, but no luck. It seems the problem is with Thunderbird inability to make the connection to any of my email accounts? On other platforms they work fine??? I don't know if Thunderbird updates are the problem. I even tried to delete and re-install Thunderbird, but nothing changed. I am about to abandon Thunderbird completely, unless someone knows how to get me connected to my outlook email! Thanks

Recently I posted about this problem here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1580858 In sum, I was having problems both in downloading messages from the Spectrum server and also with sending messages. I've attached screenshots of the error messages.

Matt and David kindly posted some helpful responses. The problem then seemed to spontaneously solve itself and I breathed a sigh of relief. Then a few days later it re-appeared.

This time it's not quite as bad in that I'll get the error messages but then usually a few minutes later I can download the messages or send an email. But it's still a real problem.

I called Spectrum again and this time the rep was adamant that if I can still use the Spectrum webmail feature (and I can), then it's not a Spectrum issue.

Last time Matt asked about my antivirus. I use Windows Defender (and occasionally do a manual scan with Malwarebytes free version), so if I understood him right, I should be OK as far as antivirus interference.

Matt also suggested I set TB so that I download messages at startup and every 15 minutes. I was set to every 10 minutes so I changed it to 15.

Matt said for me to check the Activity Manager. I've attached a screenshot of what that showed a few minutes ago. But I should note that this was after an error message displayed but my email downloaded anyway.

Finally, Matt said I should check the Error Console (Control + Shift +J). I've attached a screenshot of that. He also said I should use the trash can to clear it, so I did. He then said to press Shift + F5 to attempt to get my messages. But on my laptop, F5 just dims the display so no dice on that. But I have a second laptop and F5 is "neutral" on that one so I tried it there. I didn't get any new error message.

However, one of the screwy things is that sometimes I get all my messages as normal, but only after the "Can't connect to the server" message displays. And that's what happened with my second laptop above.

I hope I've provided better info. this time. And I hope you gents can help me with this mess.

Recently tried to switch back to using Daily, but now I get authentication errors each time I start the program. It's always the following three errors in sequence: Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com. The certificate for imap.gmail.com does not come from a trusted source. Non-overridable TLS error occurred. Handshake error or probably the TLS version or certificate used by server imap.gmail.com is incompatible.

I've tried getting rid of all of my saved passwords and even completely getting rid of the account and re-adding it. I've also tried completely disabling my VPN's service in Windows to see if that was somehow affecting it, but nothing.

I get this message when I double-click the progress bar: "Connection to server pop.mail.yahoo.com timed out."

The settings have not been altered in any way.

I've looked through the various discussions on similar questions in this community and on Reddit, but none of the suggestions have worked.

This morning I accessed my email addresses on Thunderbird just fine. But this Xfinity splash screen kept popping up in front of my email screen. Then my emails stopped coming in. The Xfininty screen asked me to verify my email or phone number. When I did, it said they didn't exist. Xfinity/Comcast said there is no problem on their end. And that my email is not hacked because I have two factor verification in place.

Earlier this year, my email was hacked. And I lost all my emails. This splash screen won't go away or close. There is no way out of it. Xfinity escalated the problem and says that someone will call in two hours. Last time this nightmare went on for more than a month with calls back and forth trying to match time zones, etc.

Anyone ever run into something like this. I really don't want to delete the whole program and start over with all the imports.

I have 3 different hotmail accounts. And tried to set them up in a newly installed thunderbird app on windows (10,sorry not up to date). In the beginning I had 2 out of 3 working, but the last one is my business account and it didn't connect. I tried many different ways to get it working, and now only the 1st one is still connecting correctly. The second one also doesn't connect anymore and is giving me the: "The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost." or Authentication error: Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.

I know for sure password and username are correct. I have added thunderbird to exceptions in firewall. I also tried turning the firewall off. no changes. I have no idea where it got so messy but can someone guide me in this? Most of it I do not understand so it is obvious I made mistakes.

After updating Thunderbird to version 150.0.2, I can no longer connect to my lolipop.jp mail servers.

Symptoms:

  • Both IMAP and SMTP stopped working at the same time
  • Webmail works normally
  • Multiple mail accounts are affected
  • Thunderbird times out when connecting to the servers
  • The issue started immediately after updating to Thunderbird 150.0.2

Settings tested:

  • IMAP: imap.lolipop.jp / Port 993 / SSL-TLS / Normal password
  • SMTP: smtp.lolipop.jp / Port 465 SSL-TLS and Port 587 STARTTLS
  • Tried Thunderbird Safe Mode
  • Tried reinstalling Thunderbird
  • Tried disabling Norton security/firewall temporarily
  • Same issue persists

Could this be a known issue with Thunderbird 150.0.2? If so, is there any workaround or planned fix?
