I have English, Japanese, Portuguese dictionaries installed in my firefox and when I use the automatic spell checker there are too many options for languages that I would like to reduce. For example, portuguese appears several times, english appears for Autralia, South Africa, UK, etc.

All those languages are probably installed by Ubuntu as part of their branding.

Can you disable those dictionaries in Tools > Add-ons > Extensions ?

You can try to ask at the Ubuntu forum on how to remove unwanted dictionaries.

hi cor-el, I can disable the dictionaries but the number of options does not change. Moreover, I do not have the option to disable the English dictionary since it is the installation language.
