deleted email account demanding anthentification and password

IT appears that it came from hostgator, a web-hosting company. If this was an email account there, I suggest you check to see if hostgator still shows the account. Thunderbird will never post such requests unless the account is listed in 'account settings' pane.

I remember having that same issue a couple of years ago, had communicated with Hostgator and they told me that all files related to my hosting account were deleted, as my service had ended a long time ago. I don't remember what I've done with TB, but didn't had these pop ups for a while until now.

Now, I've pasted the Hostgator web address on my browser, the one demanding the password, and it says that this page doesn't exit.

My immediate conclusion is that request doesn't come from HG, must come from TB. But this email account was deleted a long time ago in TB.

Is there any place in TB I could inspect to see if there is some remnant of this connection with HG ?

Puzzling. If it is by TB, I think it would have been happening routinely. You might check 'account settings' pane for the account, and scroll down to the 'Outgoing Server SMTP link to see if the SMTP server is on that pane. Or check the addressbook pane and calendar to see if there are remnants of the old account. Other than that, I have no idea. I still feel it's external to TB, as TB is rather consistent.
