I am looking for a way to disable the attachment preview pop-up for incoming emails. Almost all attachments I receive are PDFs and it doesn't work with them, only showing a black screen. Further, the popups cause my auto-hide taskbar to keep unhiding and getting in the way of my work.

I should have added - I tried any solution I found online to do with displaying attachments in line, incoming mail actions and but none worked.

Hi David,

thanks - you fixed it for me! I thought it was an integral part of Thunderbird in a recent release. I just looked and there was an enabled add on "attachment and image viewer/slideshow". I disabled it and the problem has gone away. I have no memory of installing this, but then there are a number of things I have no memory of of late!
