When I open a new tab via hyperlink or open a new tab manually, and then I switch back to an older (previously open) tab, that tab goes blank white and its address bar becomes unresponsive. Even after hitting the reload button on that tab it does not change from a blank tab. This seems like a bug.

Right, it is a bug. Try to move device horizontal/vertical, or switch tabs using slide left/right on the URL bar.
