one for received!
The left and right arrows in the email inbox make it hard to distinguish at a glance between sent and received emails. I wish the arrows could be color-coded: one color for sent, one for received. I was told earlier that something like this was being considered for 45.1, but it hasn't yet happened. Is it still being considered? Thanks so much.

You might be happier with explicit "To" and "From" columns (or maybe it's "Sender" and "Recipient"! ;-) )
To try this, right-click any of the existing column header buttons and a list of available columns should appear. Select Sender and Recipient and remove Correspondent.
You can drag the edges of the buttons to set the column widths, and you can grab and drag each button to arrange the column positions as you wish.
One of the changes that was suggested was up/down arrows. Up means uploaded, sent or "flown away" and down means downloaded, received or "landed". Whilst colouring was discussed, the trend in recent Thunderbirds has been towards grey buttons and icons, so it seems unlikely to me that colours would be used in a way that would help you.
The lack of colours irritates me; while Thunderbird's native controls may be grey, those provided by add-ons are often coloured, and so there being a mix of colours and grey suggests to me, incorrectly, that the grey ones are disabled. I use a theme (Phoenity Shredder) to make all the buttons coloured.

Some people like to keep eg: a special folder for a client in which they want to keep all correspondence, both sent and received. If you have both received and sent emails being shown in the same folder. If you sent it then it points to right.
You could remember it as you clcked on 'Write' to create and send, so the arrow will also point to the 'right' - sort of play on words phonetically.
There has been much conversation on this topic trying to sort out which is the best approach. I believe you can expect some changes to occur in version 50.
Thanks, Toad-Hall. I have a separate Sent folder. However, when I send emails from my phone, I bcc myself so that on my return to my computer I can move those emails to the "Sent" folder and thus keep them permanently on file. The problem isn't that I'm incapable of telling left from right; it's that two different colors would make it far easier to distinguish the categories at a glance. The current state isn't impossible, merely inconvenient, and would be very easy to fix.
