This feature was removed in version 29. When will it be returned to Firefox? It is a very important feature to me. Thanks.

Oh, I'm sorry. I misunderstood you. Your bookmarks can be backed up using the Library (Ctrl + Shift + B) -> Import and Backup -> Backup. They can then be imported back into your new Firefox install by going to the Library again (Ctrl + Shift + B) -> Import and Backup -> Restore -> Choose a file.

Remember that when you do an upgrade to any new version of Firefox, you won't have to backup your bookmarks as they will get imported in Firefox 29 automatically. That's why we are creating backups of your bookmarks just in case the install goes wrong.

As for your open tabs, you need to save the sessionrestore.js file in your profile folder before upgrading Firefox and then put the sessionrestore.js file back into the profile folder before opening Firefox.

The "pairing process" has been removed in Firefox 29's Sync and been replaced by a modern e-mail/password combo.

You should update all your devices to the latest Firefox version then try to sync. Note that one device on 28's Sync and one device on 29's Sync will NOT work. 28 and 29 Sync have different servers. Here is more inforamtion about upgrading to the new Sync.

Yes, the pairing process has been removed from the new version. Upgrading to the new version ruined it for me! When will it be returned in future versions?

No, the pairing process is gone forever, it's been replaced with a more reliable sign-on process. Please read Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more

Then how can I move my bookmarks and tabs from my desktop to my laptop if they've removed the way to do that in sync?

The Sync found in Firefox 29 imports everything from the old Sync. All you have to do is upgrade all your devices to use Firefox 29, update your Sync account to work with the new Sync servers, then use the Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more instructions to get everything back once you have Firefox 29.

Moses, repeating your first post still does not answer my question. I am asking how to copy my bookmarks and tabs from my desktop to my laptop. Sync in 29 no longer does that.

Thank you. That is not as good as the old Sync but it is a partial workaround. It still entails manually copying files from one computer to another and it does not copy tabs, so I still am not duplicating my setup like the old Sync did.

WorldFusionRadio,

To clarify, manually backing up your bookmarks is always a recommended thing to do as Sync may not always transfer things over. If Sync doesn't copy over everything, you then have a bookmarks.json file to restore your Bookmarks. Sync will then grab those bookmarks and upload them to the server for when you need it to be synced to another device.

As for your tabs (open tabs), I DID say you could copy them over by copying the sessionrestore.js file into the new Firefox install.
