I can see that there has been a reply or a messages was forwarded and when I right click for the menu "Open" may not even appear at times. When it does appear "Open in Conversation" is not always presented as an option even though there has clearly been conversation as I can locate reply's in the Sent folder. Sometimes it's there but when selected it opens a tab that only shows the email and none of the conversations. It's hit and miss and I can find no rhyme or reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I would love to Testflight Thunderbird on Apple. Thanks, Sue

Threading is a technical process that used a header field that contains the references ti previous messages in a thread (conversation) if the reply does not contain the references header then the reply well not be included in the conversation. Note that not all mail clients, especially some of the stuff on phones, is created equal. and in this case it is usually garbage in garbage out.

I'm not sure if this is related but I've found that when Open Message in Conversation is present, it only works if I click it from within an Inbox folder/list. If I try clicking it from any email that's in Sent it never works here (Thunderbird ver 153.0.1)

Have you rebuilt the global index? That can cause issues with finding mail to build the conversation view if is it out of date for any reason.

Note that conversations are not threads. No I do not know why! Just that they are built differently in Thunderbird
