My session gets hung when I try to access my bookmarks (since they moved) Is there something I can do to resolve this issue or should I just wait for a bug fix?

Hi, you should still be able to open the Bookmarks Sidebar using either:

  • Sidebars toolbar button (two buttons down from Print)
  • Ctrl+B keyboard shortcut

Have those stopped working?

It's not good that your session hangs when you try to access bookmarks. There might be an issue with the file.

First, if you haven't already, please do a normal shutdown and/or restart of your system. Restarting Windows can help by freeing up locked files, completing any deferred updates, and resolving temporary file permission issues.

Next, if Firefox still has bookmark problems, could you let us know what you get when you run the "Verify Integrity" diagnosis and repair function. That's here:

Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.

If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:

> Task: checkIntegrity
+ The places.sqlite database is sane
+ The favicons.sqlite database is sane
> Task: invalidateCaches
+ The caches have been invalidated
> Task: checkCoherence
+ The database is coherent

Does yours say that, or something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply for review and comment.

Thanks - I just tried disabling some extensions and add-ons - that seemed to fix my issue oddly for now - there must be some issue with one of those perhaps (youtube downloader, Tracker/blockers, etc) . Thanks for the helpful advice - it was so frustrating dealing with a hung session. I love Firefox and would hate to have to stop using it due to a bug.

I'll try running the diagnostic verify export next - if I enable the extensions and add-ons later , I may cause the same issue to reappear.

Should I try to reactivate my addons & extensions (individually ?) and then run this report again?

Hi Again, jscher2000 , what would you do in my case or what do you think I should try next ?

In deciding what extensions to re-enable, do any of them have permission to "Read and modify bookmarks"? If you go to the Add-ons page and click each one, there should be a Permissions panel. For example the attached:
