I cannot download messages from the server - although the line at the bottom says they are being downloaded.

When I try to download, a pop-up appears showing AVG is scanning emails, and the line on the left bottom says dowloading 1 of x messages, and nothing further happens. When I go to server and open web mail, the messages are here and can be read, but won't download to desktop.
