Even though I have it ticked, no spell check appears to be working, and I need it to work, please help
The old spell check that used to be there has gone. When I right click in text area I do NOT get languages as an option in the dropdown menue. I have "correct as I type" ticked, but all to no avail. I have no spell check and I need it, as I send a lot of emails with technical werds that I don't always know how to spell. I have no problem with Google Chrome. This is something that needs to be fixed as nothing has worked so far! I have even misspect a word in this query on purpose, and it wasn't corrected!

Did you try installing from the link to the Add-ons site? Maybe:

Do you have the British English dictionary installed? I think Languages should appear even if it's not installed, but I have U.S. English so I can't really compare.
Thank you, but when I right click within my email that I want to spell check, I don't get an option of choosing "languages" from the menu, as it just isn't there. I don't understand how this can be so hard when all I want is a spellchecker. I can't add a dictionary as that option never apperas anywhere.
