When closing a window with the big red X in the upper right corner, Firefox turns the box DARK red thent akes up to a minute to close the window... IE is instantaneous. What's up?

When I use the red "close" window box in Windows 7 (X off the window, upper right hand corner) in Firefox control the red box turns dark ruby and it takes anywhere from a half minute to a minute to close the window. When I use IE it's instantaneous close! This only happens on Internet windows... when it's a local (my) window it doesn't happen. What's up?
