How can I stop Thunderbird from displaying its own advertising/donation page on my browser when I open Thunderbird? It opens this page on my default browser, no matter which is chosen: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/128.0/whatsnew/?locale=en-US&version=128.6.1&channel=esr&oldversion=102.8.0 If the browser is not open, it will open it.
This is the result of trying to keep Thunderbird from automatically upgrading. In newer versions, the option to choose not to upgrade has digressed from difficult to not available. It did such an upgrade, so I de-installed and reinstalled my original version, only to have this issue.
I was very satisfied with my old version AND see no need for new any of the "features" or look. And, especially, once such a setting is made, don't want Thunderbird, or any other application or app, changing it back. This is a violation of privacy at best.
Worse yet, Thunderbird is attempting to penalize the customer for making a choice on their own computer by infecting the machine with nuisanceware.

This is always what will appear if someone updates to version 128, but it will not appear again if you stay on version 128.
Your description does not have quite enough information to understand why you are seeing this. Are you attempting to stay on version 115, you are updated to 128, you see that web page, and then reinstall 115? If so, which specific version of 115?
If that isn't accurate then please explain exactly your process.
Thanks.
Version 134.0.2
I'm trying to use Version 102 or before.
This problem with Firefox began with an automatic upgrade i didn't want. I have been disabling all auto upgrades until more recent versions where this is more difficult to do.
I own this machine and it's ok if I don't want changes as long as I'm happy, AND shouldn't be nuisanced with this kind of crap penalizing me for refusing to update.
Bring back the ability to check a box disabling upgrades.
Ive reinstalled may times and many versions and nothing now prevents this page from coming up in my browser. I've been using Thunderbird a lot less and been looking at other clients because of the new "features" in the new versions along with being penalized for refusing and have it intrude on my browser.
Regarding https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/128.0/whatsnew/?locale=en-US&version=128.6.1&channel=esr&oldversion=102.8.0 ....
- It should not be showing while you are using version 102.
- But if it is showing repeatedly, a) I don't know of a way to stop it b) any fix we might have for that will only be available in version 128 or 140 (in the next couple weeks).
Regarding updates, if it prompts repeatedly for updates, if you don't click to update then it should not do so. To get better help about an update issue, please post a new question https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/thunderbird and mention updates in the title.
Of course it "shouldn't" be causing a browser window to open at all. No matter which version is installed. This started when I tried to downgrade back to my old version from an auto upgrade. Tried latest versions and haven't liked ANY of them!
Auto updates is at the root of the problem. The fact that the option not to update ever, is not an option at all, is where this started. I tried to keep my old version but auto update kept upgrading. It changed my settings early on, then the option not to update at all was deleted. Its no accident! Its programmed to force updates on the customer who doesn't want them AND penalize us if we try to prevent them. The new versions are totally unnecessary and offer only cosmetics, bells, and whistles.
Having this page/tab open in the browser when Thunderbird opens is just plain DIRTY POOL, bad practice, and makes your crew look shady, crooked.
There are those of us who like the older versions.
New versions need the option not to update, ever. Needed is the option turn off auto updates, and leave them off, put back in, and not be badgered about it!!!
Question is how to permanently stop Thunderbird, of any version, from opening this ad, or any browser window or tab, on program startup!?
