lost all files on an account
After my Thunderbird wouldn't log in to gmail I attempted various resetting of passwords etc and the system indicated I should switch to imap (as opposed to pop) format but still no joy so eventually I tried to reinstate the account but the new account has somehow ditched all my files and drafts etc. Is there any professional help available actually with Mozilla?? that might be able to find the missing content or assist with an explanation??

hi markgerardmolloy, your data or "Profile files" are stored separately from the Thunderbird program files, and may still be there waiting for you to locate it.
I need know which operating system to be more specific, but generally speaking you should try find the Profiles folder (to find the one currently used see instructions in the below referred support article under the heading "How to find your profile") and use the Profile Manager to use it (if still there), see below.
- As an orientation have a look at Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages and other user data, unfortunately primarily Linux oriented.
- Instructions how to use the Profile Manager to locate and use your profile, if still there, look at end of the above quoted support article and click on the MozillaZine link "Profile Manager Article", which will direct you to a multi OS support article.
btw in
- Win 10 should profiles be located at "C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>", be aware can be hidden, best search for %APPDATA%,
- in MacOS should profiles be located at "\<Mac user name>\Library\Thunderbird\Profiles"
one last comment provided emails, drafts etc. are still in your gmail account (have a look via the web interface), will these be automatically downloaded again if you set up the account again using IMAP, but I dear not since what you stated in your request for help, you could also have a look at this article and re-try Switch from POP to IMAP account
All the best from Stockholm
