Firefox seems to freeze my C434TA chromebook everytime I open firefox.

I just bought the Asus C434TA Chromebook. It is supposed to be compatible with Android apps and google play store. When I set it up I was able to log into google play and a few of my android apps were uploaded as compatible, Firefox was included. I started with my ESET app which worked with no problems. Every time I went to use Firefox the whole computer would freeze, but the curse was still moveable, but function-less. The freeze would start any where from a few seconds into opening to a maybe 10 seconds into opening. I 1st thought it was the chromebook so I exchanged it with another Asus C434TA. ( I am not sure if it is connected, but then the new one would not allow or load google play. I was able to get that figured out and I think it was either something google did or it was also logging into google from a chrome browser google website and then it worked.) I got ESET again worked good and then went to Firefox and it froze the chromebook just like before. The only way out is to hold the power button down till it turns off and then turn it back on. Firefox still will not work. I cannot even get into the Firefox browser to try and submit a crash report of any kind without the whole chromebook freezing. Please help, I only have a few days left to figure out if I need to return this chromebook or not. I really hope I do not have to because I have heard it is a great chromebook and especially for the price. Thank you, Jim!

We do not develop or test Firefox for Android on a Chromebook at the present time, but I have a solution that you may wish to try. It is not simple, but this guide will walk you through how to install the full Linux version of Firefox on your device (if it is compatible):

I do not have a Chromebook to try this myself and I recomend that you follow the guide very carefully - this is not as simple as installing an app from an app store.

Ok thank you! I have no experience with Linux so I might not try that... at least not yet. The chromebook does have an option "Linux (Beta)" which talks about running tools, editors, and IDEs. However like I said I dont know if I am ready to try that yet. This is my 1st chromebook and the last system I was slightly comfortable with was XP. So maybe down the road. Would you know if "turn on" this Linux feature and/or following the steps in the link above would change or prevent me from using the chromebook in anyway? I also have a new windows laptop and it tells me if I exit "s" mode I will not be able to go back and I didn't know if this would be similar? Sorry, I cannot keep up with Tech.

As I have trusted Mozilla since almost the start of Mozilla, could you recommend a replacement browser to use on this Chrome OS that is also compatible with some android apps? Also do you know if Mozilla plans to do anything with Chrome OS in the future?

Sorry for the delay in coming back to you.

I do not believe that using the Linux settings should damage or prevent you from using your Chromebook, however a) I am unable to test this myself and b) these are settings that are designed for more advanced users.

Outside of this option, I am not sure what else I can do to help. You may want to try Firefox Preview from the Google Play Store which one of our new apps for Android that may work better for you.
