Please scan your profile for Malware or adware before trying a Firefox Reset. Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Reset Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: Button reset. Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Not really any malware or adware for Linux compared to Windows unless the poser has some Extensions installed in Firefox that is doing this.

Also make sure you are typing the url correctly as there are domains out there talking advantage of when people mistype urls.

Although off topic: If your new to Linux it can be troublesome at first. Many Linux OS's use Ubuntu as the OS with a 3rd party GUI like Zorin or one of a hundred others. The biggest problem with new users is the learning curve. Once you get past that you'll never go back to "the other". Having said that, for newbies I highly recommend Zorin OS9, Mint is good to. It is very similar to Win7 in look and use. Not all units can boot from flash even if the bios has the option. Best to make a ISO (boot dvd). Have you checked bios to see if flash is enabled? Remember if you have Win already on your sys you can dual boot leaving Win for prioritized software.

Make sure that you aren't using a proxy and always make sure to download and install Firefox from a trusted source, either the official Mozilla servers or the software repository of you Linux distribution. Using the latter can come with unwanted add-ons and other modifications.
