Hello everyone,

The current implementation of push notification in Thunderbird keeps a persistent connection to the email servers and consumes a lot more battery/compute.

An alternative idea that is used by some other projects like Bitwarden is a push notifications relay. https://bitwarden.com/help/configure-push-relay/

1. A service running not on the phone keeps a connection open to the email servers. This can be a discrete application and it can optionally be bundled into Thunderbird desktop.

2. A website similar to push.bitwarden.com where users can generate "proxy" tokens for the real push tokens for their installations or maybe we can share the original push token directly instead of relaying notifications through thunderbird infra? I will prefer the latter but I have not thought about the security considerations of exposing the real push notification token

3. The discrete application or Thunderbird desktop can send a message to GCM/APM using the token when they receive an email.

This is the only blocker for me in adopting thunderbird on android and I really want to do it but immediate push notifications that don't impact battery/compute are a priority for me.

When I compose a message in Thunderbird that contains an inline base64-encoded image (for example, an HTML ), the image is correctly visible in the compose window.

However, after sending the message:

Other mail clients and devices display the inline base64 image correctly.

In Thunderbird (both in Sent and Inbox folders), instead of the image there is just an empty placeholder/blank space.

Steps to reproduce:

Compose a new HTML message in Thunderbird.

Insert an inline base64 image (e.g., copy-paste from clipboard or manually via ).

Send the message.

Open the sent message in Thunderbird or receive it on the same Thunderbird client.

Actual result: The inline image is not displayed — only empty space is shown.

Expected result: Thunderbird should correctly render base64-encoded inline images, as other clients do.

The previous answer to this message isn't compatible with the current v142 of TB. I used this feature all the time when using Outlook 2019 before I switched to TB and I really miss it. I was able to clean up incoming messages to remove the many indentations and other unwanted formatting.

Is there anything that works with the current release of TB?

Please tell me what the difference is between "size on disk" and "user quota"? I don't understand why my mailbox is full when all folders take only 1/5 of the available space. My hosting give me 5GB, a user quota in mailbox is 4.7GB (in the app for computer: the main folder containing all other folders - properties folder - Quota - Storage: 4.7GB), size on disk is 853MB (in the app for computer: the main folder containing all other folders - properties folder - General Information - Size on disk: 853MB), and the weight of all folders is ~1040MB (the sum of the weights of all individual folders in the main folder). None of the numbers match. I understand that the sum of the weights of all folders is probably supposed to be 853MB, that the discrepancy is due to rounding the numbers. I understand that some space may be "lost" from the hosting because installation files take up some space, so I actually have 4.7GB to use, not 5GB. However, I don't understand why my mailbox is full, when from 4.7 GB only 853 MB is used?

I have Thunderbird set up with various POP accounts to act as an aggregator, bringing all email into one Inbox.

Most of the accounts are hotmail or gmail accounts.

When searching on terms, it will bring up old emails and the location given is "Inbox".

These emails are however not in my combined Inbox. I have gone through the Local Folders structure and there is no other folder names Inbox.

Is there a means to access these emails and either recover them or properly deleted them?
