Confused about subscribing to folders on TB and on the server

benaround3

Hello New to TB, it's working well. My question is that I can't find a setting that causes emails to be downloaded immediately from the server as soon as they are received. Is there one?

The only available settings I can find are

Check for new messages at startup Check for new messages every (minimum 1 minute) Allow immediate server notifications when new messages arrive

If I have all of these checked then I should get an immediate sound and/or visual notification when a new message arrives on the server and I can see its header, so what is the significance of the "check for new messages every (set to 1 minute)" setting? Does that mean it will download all messages, including bodies, received in the last minute without any user input?

Chosen Solution

I can't find a setting that causes emails to be downloaded immediately from the server as soon as they are received.

Check the 'Allow immediate server notifications when new messages arrive' setting.

Check for new messages every (minimum 1 minute)

A one minute interval would be overkill, even without immediate server notifications. With immediate server notifications turned on you don't need the 'Check for new messages every x minutes' option at all. You can uncheck it in Account Settings. With AOL/Yahoo accounts don't take 'immediate' literally though.

They are the correct settings for controlling download of message headers. They do not control message bodies (that is the Sync & Storage portion of the imap account settings). And they are not the settings to control whether you get notified.

Oh, which is the setting to control notification? I thought it was the bottom one "Allow immediate server notifications when new messages arrive"
