Update to 157..0.1 wiped out tabs and bookmarks like it was a clean install

Don Doty

Desktop version update to 157.0.1 acted like a fresh install. Prompted me to import from previous browser. Firefox was my previous browser. I have my bookmarks backed up, but lost all my tab groups, which is a huge problem to try and recreate. Lost downloaded themes. Lost downloaded extensions. Why did this happen? I can't imagine it was by design.

Hello,

First, it is possible that firefox failed to read your profile and created a blank profile. To check, go to about:profiles, then look through the list of profiles and you will likely see 2. If you see another profile, launch it, and then launch in new browser window. after that, go back to about:profiles and set as default.

If you do not see a second profile, then here is how to recover your tab groups : go to about:profiles, look in the root directory, then click open folder. After that, close firefox. Then, go to a folder named sessionstore-backups, and open it. After that, look for a file named upgrade.jsonlz4-... (or most recent one). If it is isn't there, look for a file named previous.jsonlz4, then copy the file, and move it into the profile in use, and look for a corresponding sessionstore.jsonlz4, delete it, and paste the backup you copied and rename it to sessionstore.jsonlz4.

Thank you for the quick response. There were actually three profiles, and I found the right one. Worked perfectly.
