Changing the layout when a message is openned in new tab
I am new to TB, so I apologize if there is a well known extension that does what I'm looking for. The problem I have is that I like to have the email client in fullscreen, but when I open an email with a new tab, it takes out the whole screen. Instead I would like to have something on the left side so the message is centered on the screen rather than having to look at a side, for example having the folder structure remain.

I don't think it's possible to show the Folder Pane when a message is viewed in a tab, but the Threads Pane can be hidden with this add-on: Maximize Message Pane. With the Threads Pane hidden, navigate forward and back through the list with the F and B keys.

Forgot to clarify. I'm using the MacOS desktop version.
Press F8 in the main window to show the Message Pane. This displays the opened message at the same time the Folder and Thread Panes are visible. The arrangement of the 3 panes is under View/Layout. Ann alternative is to open messages in a window, instead of tabs, and size the window so it doesn't hide the Folder Pane.
I've tried your suggestion, but unfortunately it does the opposite of what I'm looking for. It shows or hides the Message Pane, but it does not affect the message list pane. So it only toggles between "message list + Message" view and "message list only". What I would like is to hide the message list pane, which I haven't found controllable in the Layout tab.
I think you're missing the Folder Pane, enabled under View/Layout. If you choose View/Layout Vertical or Classic View, the width of the Threads Pane (message list) can be made very small by placing the cursor on the line between the Threads and Message Panes until it turns to a double-arrow, then clicking and dragging the line towards the Threads Pane.
Regarding the Floder Pane, it is visible and controllable which I desire to keep, so I did not mention it. The threads pane on the other hand is not controllable as far as I could find. Minimizing the threads pane is also limited in that there still remains a minimum of 4 messages and the toolbar which make up around 1/4 of my screen.
Now that I understand a bit of the terminology, the result I want is to be able to toggle the Folder Pane visibility in the new tab message display. Or alternatively be able to hide the Threads Pane when focusing on a message and then exiting that view by hitting escape.

Thank you that does the job I needed. Had to look for the user manual to find how to control it, but it works ok.
