If I install a newer version (38) of FF, will it allow me to import my passwords, bookmarks etc?

I'm in Italy, but need FF in English. The shop that built my PC installed it in Italian. Since I am now using FF 37, I thought I could just download 38 in English and install it. But that is assuming, of course, that during installation FF 38 will ask if I want to import my passwords, bookmarks etc from 37 before overwriting it. BUT... I'm not sure it will ask, and fear that 38 will overwrite 37 before I realize it isn't going to ask. (In researching language issues in FF, I discovered Tools > Options > Content > Language, which I'm assuming - now it's set to EN - will fetch me FF 38 in English).

hello FxFx, the language option in options > content will only signal to websites what your preferred language is.

you can switch from an italian firefox 37.0.2 to an english 38.0 build by downloading the latter version from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ and simply installing it on top of your current installation - this won't affect and keep all your data like bookmarks or passwords automatically, since they are stored separately in your profile folder that is independent of the firefox version you are running...

If you are not 100% confident, you can always make a backup copy of your currently active profile folder, which contains your settings files. You can find that folder by typing or pasting the following in the Start menu search box and pressing Enter:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

There you should see one or more semi-randomly-named folders. The most recently updated one would have your current data.

Note: Please exit out of Firefox and allow a minute for file updates before copying the folder to a safe location.

Yes, worked like you said. During installation of FF 38, the "no-turning-back" button said "Upgrade", which was reassuring.
