I have just put a new hard drive in my pc, a new installation of vista, downloaded firefox from the official site.

The first thing i did was, set the privacy settings as follows :-
do not tell sites anything about my tracking preferences ..... Firefox will never remember history .... when using location bar suggest ... nothing.
When i came to use the location bar for the first time it suggest sites/words etc, any idea why this is? did not import anything i.e bookmarks, i do not have a profile, i have added adblock/plus and ghostery.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks Nightowl

Hello, found the answer, if you right click the search bar at the top of the page, a drop down box appears, one of the items is show suggestions, this was ticked, i unticked it and all is well.

Not sure why this impacts on the location bar ?
Once again thanks for all your help, Nightowl

You always have a profile and extensions are installed in that profile. Firefox will create a new profile automatically if no profile is found and the profiles.ini file is missing. You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

With these settings you run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode and Firefox won't save personal data to the profile folder.

With the location bar set to "Nothing" you shouldn't see any suggestions. If get suggestions then an extension might be causing this.

Selecting nothing should set this pref to false on the about:config page:

  • browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled

Hello, thanks for the replies, sorry about the delay but i have been away.

Nothing suggested has worked, i fond other people have this same problem, which has only occured after we have all upgraded to the latest firefox version, so maybe a bug? I have my main pc which has exactly the sdame settings as this new hard drive, but no problems with that as i am using an older version.
Any chance that i can dowload an older version if so from where please
Much appreciated for the replies, Nighowl
