Clicking on the button that looks like a double box will restore the window to its normal size, after which you will see the single box to maximize the window.
- You will see the icons and wording if you click on "Alt+SpaceBar" if you don't want to do anything hit "Esc".
If you went into full screen mode "F11:" (toggle) you would also see the same within the button.
This is Windows and it would apply to all of your applications.
Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
