For some time now, when opening Firefox, I do not find the tabs I opened in the previous session. I've checked that the "Open previous windows and tabs" box is checked, but it didn't help. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it from a fresh .EXE file, but that didn't work either. I've searched for resources on the subject but haven't found a solution to my problem. I should mention that I'm not a computer expert and I'm not exactly young any more.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

Bonjour, Thank you for your reply. Being French and living in France I will try my best in translating the menu terms, as I use the French version of Firefox. I have not yet read the link but I will do asap. Strangely enough, when Firefox opens without my previous tabs, "Restore Previous Session" is grey. I have to admit I did not know it existed and I wonder if it is grey because I ticked "Restore Previous Session" in the General Settings.

I did try closing Firefox with the three bar menu then Quit: it works. I haven't yet tried the File, Exit, but I will. So far the most common action I used to close Firefox was "alt+F4" which, up until recently, worked fine.

So, at the moment, even if I haven't been able to go back to the original condition, at least I have a practical solution to my problem, and thank you for it. I will come back to you if I can solve my bug.

Can you restore the session manually via "History -> Restore Previous Session"?

You can check this support article.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox Title bar, especially if you have multiple windows or Private Browsing windows open to prevent losing tabs in unnoticed windows.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

You can check "History -> Restore Previous Session" and "History -> Recently Closed Windows/Tabs".
