"Firefox" doesn't have a fix for Rootkits and I highly doubt that installing an older version of Firefox is going to help you. If you can't download the "fix" program now with Firefox, the Rootkit might be blocking specific domains where the "fix" can be obtained, to keep you from removing it. You may need to use a different, uninfected PC to download the "fix" to a USB key, and then transfer that program to the infected PC.
