I would like to deactivate my account, or maybe suspend it, because I still want to be able to see what is already there. I don't want to be able receive anymore emails.

- help>troubleshootinginformation - scroll down to 'profile folder' and click 'open folder' - exit thunderbird - go to either imapmail\<accountname> or mail]<POPaccountname> folder - your desired message folders should appear. ignore the msf files - COPY the desired folders to Mail\Local Folders folder - restart thunderbird and verify that you can read the copied folders - then remove the old account
