Now that the MAPI mail feature has disappeared from current versions of Thunderbird is there any chance it will ever be restored?

Now that the MAPI mail feature has disappeared from current versions of Thunderbird is there any chance it will ever be restored?

Chosen solution

The helpful information at those links is informing you that you cannot use a program which uses 32bit and expect it to operate using a 64bit program.

You would need to tell us what Program you are using when you try to use the 'Send to'.

But it does sound possible you are using a 32bit program. Exit Thunderbird. Uninstall Thunderbird - quick method delete the 'Mozilla Thunderbird folder from these locations - check both: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\ C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\

Then empty the computer 'Recycle Bin' Go to this link: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/ Look for your preferred language - you will see a Windows 32-bit option written in black coloured font and it will be just below the main green outline download buttons.

How do you mean disappeared?

Disappeared means I updated TB and MAPI suddenly stopped working. On your online support system, it says I have to roll back to an earlier version. When I attempt this I get a message saying the profile will be lost because it was created with a newer version and I apparently have to start from scratch. The question is: can you suggest a way to get MAPI working again without installing an old version of TB?

re : On your online support system, it says I have to roll back to an earlier version.

What online support system says MAPI failure fix is to roll back to earlier version? Please post link.

Rolling back to previous versions is not straight forward and not recommended in some cases as there has been changes to file format structure. So only advised in those cases if a backup was created whilst using a previous version.

But the rollback is sort of besides the point. The question is: can you suggest a way to get MAPI working in the current Windows release?

A related question: Downloading the current installer only seems to install TB in Windows 10 as 64 bit. Is there a way to get it to install as 32 bit?

re : and MAPI suddenly stopped working.

Please state what OS you use and what version of Thunderbird. Explain what you are doing/trying to achieve - the actual process you are using and what error you are getting. What type of file are you talking about?

For example: Did you right click on a file > Send to > Thunderbird email

Is Thunderbird not in the list ? OR is Thunderbird in the list but did you get the following message pops up: There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel.

Exit Thunderbird Computer check current setting and select them again.

Computer settings: Default Email: reselect Thunderbird 'choose default applications by protocol' - reselect 'MAILTO' as Thunderbird.

In search type : regedit select 'Registry Editor'

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\Mailto The default setting should say: Mozilla Thunderbird

There are a couple known issues

  • 1735601 Mapi attachments disappear from moz-mapi folder before email sent, causing "Sending of the message failed." after update to 91.2.0
  • 1722256 outlook dialog "no default mail client" appears on every start of Thunderbird (failed MAPI integration)
