I have installed version 78.9.1 on two (Win 10 64bit) desktop PC's. One can control the Preview text size (in the panel below the open folder) using Ctrl with the + or - keys. The other PC does not respond in the same way (except to alter the text in Preview Panel header). However, both PC's can control text size in the same way in a 'New Tab' or 'New Window' situation. What am I missing?

You appear to be using an add-on (Conversations), which may affect the fonts in the Message Pane. Try it without the add-on, and increase the sizes in Fonts & Encodings to something like 16 or 18. The sizes are in pixels, which are about 50% smaller than points.

In Options/General/Language & Appearance, click Advanced and set the fonts and sizes with Fonts for: Latin, repeat with Fonts for: Other Writing Systems, uncheck 'Allow messages...'. This will set the fonts for viewing message content in the Message Pane, tabs or windows.

Prompt help much appreciated sfhowes. Not clear it has solved the problem yet (unless I haven't followed through fully) Attached are some screen clips that show compliance with your recommended 'Options' modifications. These include confirmation of the 2 X Font options settings, the 5 X Tests I made to monitor the results and the 2 X examples of the failure to fully adjust all the text in the Preview panel - not just the 'Header' and 'Footer' information thereon.
