the folder inbox is full, despite small size and compacting folders
I have mac os x 10.10 Yosemite I am running Thunderbird 45.8.0. I get regular messages from within the Thunderbird ap telling me that it is impossible to update. (I've tried!)
I do have 15 years of email messages that I have carefully moved from computer to computer, and I do regularly search through and reference very old emails.
Lately I'm getting a message that says "Alert: The folder Inbox is full, and can't hold any more messages. To make room for more messages, delete any old or unwanted mail and compact the folder." This only applies to one of my accounts which has not received any messages for about a week. The other email accounts are receiving messages.
I have deleted everything that I can. I have emptied the trash. I have run "compact folders" It doesn't help.
If I log in to this account with webmail I can view the undownloaded messages, so it is not my hosting account that is blocked up.
Thank you very much for your help!

1) I recently inherited a Mac with 45.8.0 and was unable to updated it using the standard method, so you are not alone in that issue. Visit http://getthunderbird.com/ ... download the latest version and install it.
2) There are a couple possibilities related to Inbox is full. One is to delete some messages, preferally large ones or may small ones, and then right+click the inbox and pick compact. Is this a pop account or imap?
As I said I already deleted, emptied trash, and compacted folders, to no avail. Pop accounts.
Assuming you have moved all good emails out of Inbox, deleted all other emails and compacted the Inbox. So it is completely empty.
- Right click on Inbox and select 'Properties'
- Click on 'Repair folder' button
- click on OK
Does the pop account have it's own account and set of folders or have you set up the pop account to use 'Global Inbox' so you only see the 'Local folders' mail account ?
