Having trouble getting emails into Thunderbird

I found a question and answer about how to export/import emails from one computer to another. I followed the directions but nothing has imported. I have a new Windows 10 Home system. I installed Thunderbird on my old computer and it imported everything from Outlook Express into Thunderbird perfectly.
