What's a free way to do this? (I'm on Linux Mint, if that makes a difference)

Can Thunderbird do this? How can thunderbird do this? Is there an easier way than using Thunderbird?

A month ago, I decided to give Thunderbird a try as my email client coming from MS Outlook.

I used the import functionality to import my from my Outlook installation's .pst files.

Everything seemed to work and I have been using Thunderbird for a month now.

Today however, I required to look up past sent emails. The Sent folder is there. It imported and the messages are there. Unfortunately the "From" and "To" fields have had their email addresses replaced with just the person's name. This is not consistent but is true perhaps 80% of the time.

The From field of course just has my name The sent field in most cases only has the recipient's name, though there is the rare email that does show the email address.

Is there a method to correct this?

Thanks in advance.

Using TB to download the same email from Gmail account on 2 different computers

Hello,

I have been struggling with this issue for some time and finally thought maybe someone in the support forums could help. Here is my concern:

I have two laptops, each running Thunderbird. They both can access my local ISP and download email – whatever email is on that server will download to both laptops, no matter which one polls for it first. And mail will remain on that server until I delete it from there since TB is set to leave messages on server.

I thought I could set up my Gmail account that way – so that each laptop using TB could download all recent email – and both could get all of the email, no matter which one accessed it first.

Well – it doesn’t seem that it works that way. If I download the email to laptop A – then when I try from laptop B – it doesn’t download any that was already downloaded to laptop A, and visa versa, since apparently it is only downloading each email once – to whichever laptop polls for it first – not both like my local email server.

I have Gmail set up as POP, with the option to leave messages on server checked, and each laptop works fine independently – but all of the email can never be downloaded to both laptops – one is always missing some.

After I download any messages, the messages that are downloaded are not marked as read on the Gmail server - they remain marked as unread, but they will only download to the first laptop that polls for new messages.

I was hoping that someone might be able to tell me a trick to make this work. I do not want to change to IMAP since it seems that would make the "confusion" worse - if one laptop deletes a message, it would be deleted from the server as well. I want to continue to use POP3, but I want each laptop to operate independently and be able to get all of the new email that is on the server - no matter which one polls first.

I did read the info about Recent mode - but I'm not sure that will work as it seems it will only "show" 30 days of emails - what about the rest? I have many going back several years that I want to keep, and don't want anything to delete them either from TB or Gmail.

Seems there must be a way to do this, and it seems like it is a TB issue in the settings.

I appreciate any help that anyone can offer. Thanks!

My Thunderbird Email was badly damaged (I lost most of my files) when Apple updated to Ventura. Can I download Thunderbird again somehow? Will it work on Ventura from Apple? Apple wants me to trash the damaged Thunderbird, but then I would lose all the files there. I am not very computer savy. If not, any help is appreciated.

I've migrated Thunderbird profile with lot of local folders to a new Windows computer, and almost everything works fine. However, few folders are shown empty in Thunderbird, and they certainly have some mail - I can see it in the corresponding files. When I look at a problematic folder properties it shows that its location is different from the actual file - some random 8 letters, and Thunderbird created an empty folder with this name. I've tried to remove folderTree.json, folderCache.json, and even global-messages-db.sqlite, and restarted the Thunderbird. The properties of the folder remain the same and the directory with wrong name is created again, and the folder remains empty. Other mail folders are fine - the emails are rescanned.

Where the mapping from local mail file name to Properties/Location is stored? I cannot find it with grep - the only reference I've found was in the files I removed, but the mapping somehow persists.

Using Thunderbird to clear my gmail of bacn

After a long (health related) absence, I'd like to regain control of my gmail, with over a million emails and a bunch of labels that were relevant a decade ago, but not now. Plan of attack: 1. Sort ALLMAIL into labels of years received; emptying INBOX. 2. Open in TB, sort one "year label" at a time by sender, deleting unimportant msgs and unsubscribing ruthlessly. 3. Then return to gmail, delete obsolete labels and create a more relevant and sustainable set, while maintaining inbox.

My questions: A. Is there any part of the above that I cannot do in Thunderbird? B. My Thunderbird version is 78.14.0. When i click to update, it offers me version 91.0. When I go to Thunderbird's home page, it says the new release is 102. To what version should I update? My laptop's 5 year old: I'll put its specs at the bottom since I don't know which ones you'll want. C. I can't quite empty my gmail inbox! In the past of using TB, I always could. Now there are these dumb labels called primary and other things and even after disabling them I see different inbox numbers in TB itself, in gmail label system view, on that little header top right above inbox messages and in the inbox view itself. D. Thunderbird immediately shows the new 'year labels' but has not stopped downloading messages from all labels, old and new. Should I start from scratch after updating to new version?

Thank you for any assistance. _________________________________________________________________________________________ My laptop specs are as follows: ThinkPad Yoga X1 (2nd Gen) - New in 2018 Part No: 20JDCTO1WW-R90PFUPK Configuration Details ● Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-7300U Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz) ● Operating System: Windows 10 Professional 64 - English ● Display Type: 14.0" WQHD (2560x1440) LED backlight, MultiTouch, IPS w/720p HD Camera ● Memory: 16GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 / soldered to systemboard ● Hard Drive: 1TB Solid State Drive M.2 ● Warranty: 1 Year Warranty ● Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 620 ● Battery: 4-Cell Li-Polymer Battery (56Whr) ● Bluetooth: Bluetooth ● Wireless: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265, Wi-Fi 2x2 802.11ac + BT4.1, M.2 card

I have been running 52.9.1 because it supports all of the add ons I want. v60 also supports the same addons. v68 onwards does not. Most of them have not been replaced (because of removal of APIs for example), and have not been replaced by native Thunderbird options.

The key addons for me are minimize to Tray (yes I know it's available in 102). Security settings from address book (selective encryption - I don't have to globally enable/disable encryption for my S/Mime certs). And Manually sort folders (As I have over 400 and 52.91 does not sort them).

I also use a custom theme. I cannot use dark mode as I'm old and visually impaired and dark themes make stuff impossible for me to read.

I have a dozen email addresses. Each email account has a number of filters which move emails to subfolders on Local Folders. Basically, nothing stays in the inbox of the account.

I use pop for inbound email. I have moved my profile folder and my mail storage off the C:\ drive to simplying restoring of the C:\ drive or reinstsallation of Wiindows. Email and all Mozilla profiles are backed up twice daily using Macrium.

v52.91. is 32bit. I've downloaded the 64 bit v60.9.1

So my question is; Can I install v60 over the top of v52 and expect that Thunderbird will pick up my exiting configuration as it is now and "upgrade" any DBs or profiles or whatever such that I do not have to reconfigure everything?

Given the difference in bitness, is installing v60 going to break the ability to uninstall v52, or will uninstalling v52 after upgrading to v60 break my configuration or lose anything?

thanks for your help.

FYI: I did try 102 and 68 before asking this question. I also really cannot cope with square tabs. They just look so bad. I've never been able to get any assistance from Reddit regarding customizing the tabs on Thunderbird (or anything else Thunderbird related for that matter).

Hello, Thank you for all your work. I've been a loyal Thunderbird user for several years now and I really like the features of TB. However the update to version 102.6.1 is not doing well.

Please forgive me, as there are a lot of questions below. But this issue is really important to me.

Here are my concerns: 1. I've stopped the automatic update of TB using your settings.

2. The email portion seems to work well - and thank you.

3. But the Address Book portion is really BAD. I cannot display all the information for an address. The data is not present. ** I need a functioning address book. **

4. The list of Address Books (I have three now) is present but the panel on the left is too large, and cannot be adjusted.

I've exported the contents of these address books to LDIF and CSV files as a backup.

5. Trying to delete or move multiple addresses does not work. I'm trying to select multiple addresses, as with Windows - hold the Shift key at the top and bottom.

6. Also after selecting an address, it is really difficult to get back to the full list.

7. IMPORTANT - can I install an earlier version of TB WITHOUT losing information.?

8. I found the Cardbook addon, but it will not work. It will not load my existing address books into Cardbook. The add-on author has tried to help, but has not succeeded yet.

9. I've read the various entries the TB forum and other sites via Google.

10. Ready to jump back to Outlook - which I don't want to do. Maybe not?

11. Please point me to an earlier version of TB that works better than v.102.

Again, sorry for all these questions. I've spent hours trying to fix this issue. Hope you can help.

I cannot get my existing address books to load into Cardbook. Where are the controls to do so? How does one synchronize then?

I hope that you can solve what I'm doing wrong with CardBook. I'm not a newbie, actually a retired SysAdmin and a serious Windows 10 user.

Thank you.

I just installed Thunderbird for use on a user profile on a windows server 2008 r2. The account is a 365 outlook account. When I set it up, everything was failing. I then set up the user without a password, and had Thunderbird automatically prompt me with a 365 user login screen when pressing get mail. This worked to log in to get the mail, but it didn't update any smtp settings, and as far as I can tell, there's no way to tickle the system into displaying one. Has anyone experienced this, and what did you find that worked?

Gracias in advance.
