how to make pdf files always open in a new tab?

more options

I just start using firefox, and need to open a lot of pdf files for my work. I used to use chrome, every time I open a pdf file for print it will always has a separate windows. It was nice because I need to stay in the page I was working on. With firefox, sometimes it opens in a new tab, sometime it opens in the same tab. After I print out the page I need, I have to use go back button to the previous page I was working on. It's kind of annoying for me. I tried to fix it through setting, but couldn't find a way to do it. Does anyone know how to do it?

I set as "preview in firefox".

For me on Windows 7, Firefox always opens a new tab for the PDF being previewed in Firefox.

If those PDF files are opened via a hyperlink, are you able to right-click and use Open Link in a New Tab?

And sometimes middle-click on the hyperlink will open the link in a new tab, but not always for PDF file, iirc. As I said, that has been the default for me for as long as Firefox has had a PDF reader add-on built-in.
