I am on Windows7 and FF ESR. When I backup bookmarks a .json file is created on destop. The icon is displaying an red circle with an exclamation mark in the middle. What does this mean.

I am also wanting to move from ESR to vanilla firefox and I am worried I will lose my bookmarks. should I post a different question for the instructions etc of changing from ESR?

Hi emsullivan,

The red circle with exclamation mark icon may be due to Symantec or Mozy products you have installed. This doesn't appear that it should prevent you from restoring your bookmarks in the event you need to when upgrading to the latest Firefox release from ESR.

Prior to upgrading, I would also recommend backing up the rest of your profile by following the instructions in this Knowledge Base article. Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

As for updating Firefox from the ESR to the latest release. I would recommend downloading the latest release of Firefox from here Download Firefox, and using the installer to complete the upgrade.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Have a good one!

Good news about the bookmarks.

Thanks for the links to the process for upgrading from ESR. If I have any (idiot) questions about that should I post here or create a NEW question ?

You're very welcome, emsullivan! If you have other questions regarding the upgrade or any other questions regarding Firefox, feel free to create a new question.
