What is the exact error message?

Hi Chris the message is as follows The current operation on inbox did not succeed. the mail server for account mike.Stansfield@talktalk.net responded : unrecognized IMAP4 command.

It has worked of years the password has not changed and my phone and ipad work fine on the same router . system on my laptop is Windows 10 Thank Mike

My messages are received ok on the email providers webmail - mikes response above mirrors mine exactly.

I've just been in contact with Talktalk and described my problems . The lady seemed not to be too surprised on this occasion especially when I said I now knew I was not the only one! A few clicks on a keyboard at her end and she asked me to tap in the password I started yesterday - it let me in this time and has worked ok since! Suggest mike calls them up to get his fixed too!

As my internet email works ok TalkTalk say that the fault is with thunderbird Mozilla ?

My Mozilla mailbox worked fine for an hour but has reverted to previous situation. Spoke to Talktalk again who now seem to be passing the problem onto Mozilla - given me a number to call which is a London code but the dial tone is US - it rings but there's no answer! It's off again. I also have problems with the Talktalk router which occasionally shows a red light over the internet connection. Did it this morning and reported it, a replacement is on its way.

Dear mike ,is your Mozilla email back to normal? Mine isn't and Talktalk have washed their hands of it and say the problem is with Mozilla. I can't find any number to talk to someone at Mozilla about this. There are sites perporting to be Mozilla but they are scams. Any help from anyone would be appreciated

Hi Eddie my system is working ok has been for 2 days after I changed my setting to the following which I received for talktalk community.

My settings are now:


In Thunderbird mail Go to tools / account settings / server settings

Server name mail.talktalk.net - was IMAP.talktalk.net

Port 993 - was Port 143

change the Connection security from STARTTLS to SSL/TLS

No other changes required. It looks like talktalk have changed their settings again and not told anyone.

Oh dear, I was so hopeful when I received your note above and made the changes as per your instructions but it hasn't worked so where do I go now I wonder? Eddie

Sorry Eddie Try talktalk it may be your router . But it sounds like a update on a ipad etc has changed setting . I cant stop emails from tt its driving me mad.

Spent more than two hours on Talktalk helpline - tried alsorts to no avail - its as bad as ever. It's supposed to be being escalated and they will call me. Meantime I have received a replacement router as mine kept closing down internet - the new one is doing just the same. Have had to reboot it to get onto google. I've been on a site called Downdetector and there's all manner of grief with TT reported on there. Not very encouraging!
