I followed all steps in the article titled Cannot delete messages and it does not work. I delete the trash folder as directed but it does not disappear from the folder list and the problem still exists.

right click your deleted folder and select properties. What size is it on disk? Same for the inbox please.

The trash folder is 786 KB and the trash msf folder is 4.98 KB. Thanks for your help.

One detail I forgot to pass on - I have 2 different email addresses and the problem seems to exist in both. That sounds more like a program problem but if I were an expert, I wouldn't be asking the questions in the first place. Sorry.

OK then, tell us the sizes of both Inboxes and both Deleted files.

I suspect that Matt was asking to check if your files were approaching a critical size, but from the numbers so far this seems unlikely.

I think a look at your Troubleshooting Information might be useful.

Please add the troubleshooting information to your post. To find the Troubleshooting information:

  • Choose Troubleshooting Information.
  • Use the button Copy to clipboard to select all. Do not check box "Include account names"!
  • Paste this in your post.

Please also add the result of these troubleshooting steps to your post

  • Does Thunderbird work in TB Safe mode (see Thunderbird Safe Mode)?
  • Do you use anti-virus and firewall software? What is the version?
  • Who is the email provider?
  • Who is the internet provider?
