Installed Thunderbird for first time, and also my first time using Windows 10. My Incredimail program doesn't work on Win10, so I thought I would try Thunderbird. However it tells me that my SMTP is not set up correctly. I received specific info from my carrier "Charter.net" for the port numbers, but I can't send, nor can I receive email. Please help me. Thanks, Cindi

Chosen solution

According to Charter: SSL: This setting should be Off for both SMTP and IMAP.

Your setup: account1 (imap) imap.Charter.net:143 SSL/TLS Normal password smtp.charter.net:25 SSL/TLS Normal password true

So you did exactly the opposite of what Charter are saying: you did turn on SSL/TLS. Change 'Connection security' to 'none' in your Account Settings for both, Incoming and Outgoing Server.

Having said that, communicating with the server in clear text really isn't state of the art anymore. I'd look for another provider offering SSL/TLS. For some reason Charter seem to do that for mobile though, so you may just try the settings for mobile.

Thanks, I can finally get email now without having to go through my provider's web site. Yes, the text view sucks, but at least it's larger font than Microsoft Outlook. I really appreciate your help. I just wish I could go back to Incredimail, but I can't even get to it's page because of the crashes. I've been using IncrediMail for years, I just have no idea how to make it get going in Windows 10! In the meanie weanie, I'll use Thunderbird until IncrediMail configurations get fixed. Again, thanks so much for helping me get to my new Thunder! CindiWindi
