I have used Thunderbird for years without issue, but since moving to Windows 10, when I try to "empty junk" in my Spam folder, my system locks up for a minute.
When I right click my Spam folder & select empty junk, my system always locks up for a minute or so.

That will be one of three things I can think of.
1. Anti virus scanning the opening of a large file. Solution create an exception in your anti virus for the Thunderbird profile folder) 2. Defender as the default anti virus. Solution exclude the Thunderbird process in Defenders settings. 3. If the account is IMAP their could be network issues that cause Windows to lockup until the sync to the mail server is complete.
