Is't so difficult to popup a message that the BTInternet.com mail server is suffering problems instead of simply broadcasting "There are No New Messages"

No more to add: apparently the email server of BT Yahoo is hours out-of-service! It would be nice if Thunderbird could pass on Error messages into layman understandable cries instead of "No New Messages"!

You should complain to BT about this.

Dear Mr. Robot, I'm not complaining about Mozilla Thunderbird! I think it's superb email software. However, the non-discriminatory, and rather bland message "There are No New Messages", is not informing a lot: I'm not an email operations insider but a message like "BT Internet or BT Yahoo or Your email server appears to suffer interruption of normal services" is much clearer and will tell me where to go and check.

Thanks,

R Pas

Please keep your insults to yourself. It is not becoming when you start telling volunteers that they are robots. Especially when the information they are conveying is correct.

Your complaining is misguided. "the non-discriminatory, and rather bland message "There are No New Messages", is not informing a lot:" That message appears when Thunderbird logs into the mail server, asks for mail and is told their is none. It is somewhere between impossible and improbable that anyone can write a mail client to second guess the mail server when it says their is no mail.

If the mail server offered any form of error message when Thunderbird connected and asked for the mail it would be delivered verbatim in an error dialog. It is delivered Verbatim because errors are for the user to decipher and they can be cryptic. That Thunderbird received no error is symptomatic of your providers service delivery over many years.
