If your mail acted like you claim in the past then it was set up as a POP account and not IMAP. POP and IMAP are email standards and work the same all the time. No email client changes that. It is possible to have IMAP email account and set the client up as POP with some providers. Local Folders is a standard account in ALL Thunderbird installations.

That is how IMAP email works. The messages are kept on the server and you view them remotely. The option that you refer to does keep a copy on your computer so you can access them when your computer or Thunderbird is offline. As soon as the computer is back on line and it connects with the mail server it will synchronize the mail and anything that was deleted on the server will be removed from the local storage.

If you want to keep permanent local copies you need to create folders under Local Folders in Thunderbird and move the messages there. Once you have moved the messages and have confirmed they are they are and you can read them you can remove them from the server.

Dear Airmail,

Thanks for your answer. I did know this already. Anyhow on my previous machine Thunderbird just did work differently, and I can not find the setting responsible for the change. On my previous machine (also IMAP) if the message was deleted from the server (from an another machine for example) then that email did not disappear from my computer. Maybe that was a failure of the Mozilla thunderbird back then, but anyhow I just would like to have that behavior without using an extra folder and see my emails in two folders..... not to mention, I dont know, if I have the local folder, how I automatically send all the emails from one email account to it the way it collects all of them but never delete...
